EASY AND CAREFREE SUMMER LIFE

Thrilling new products from Marimekko

Marimekko brings loads of joy and colour to the summer’s parties, picnics, and beach and country life. There are also many new, never-before-seen Marimekko products available.

Tempotest fabrics with a dirt- and water-repellent Teflon finish are among the most interesting new products, making an ideal addition to Marimekko’s wide and varied range of fabric qualities. Tempotest is a solution-dyed acrylic fabric primarily designed for outdoor use, but its mildew resistance also makes it highly suitable for indoor wet areas. The new fabrics come in two patterns: Joonas, which Maija Isola, dancing, painted with a big brush in the evenings and at night at Marimekko's printing works in 1961, and Keinu, a fresh striped design by Kristina Isola. The colourways include sunny yellows and oranges, marine greens and blues, and graphic black and white. Both patterns also appear on durable Tempotest cushions that are excellent for use in the garden, on the terrace or balcony. Handsome sunshades are available in the fascinating Joonas pattern.

The new Marimekko hammock in hand-woven cotton is perfect for enjoying leisurely summer days. A wonderfully soft wool blanket in the same pattern provides warmth if it gets chilly. The colours of the Japanese-inspired, striped Kimara pattern by Iiro A. Ahokas compete with the brilliance of the sun. The feeling of carefree summer life is also beautifully captured in Heikki Orvola’s designs for Marimekko: the new, plant-themed Lomapäivä and the multicolour Tom Tom stripe design from 1987. This cheerful ensemble features fabrics and cushion covers, as well as a large Lomapäivä-patterned plywood tray. Sun-worshippers especially will be delighted by the new generous beach towels in the Tom Tom, Joonas and Keinu patterns.

In the summer, Heikki Orvola’s designs can also be admired in a retrospective exhibition at the Northern Ostrobothnia Museum in Oulu, Finland, from 5 June to 6 September.
