'Kivikko' – a New Marimekko Furnishing Item with Many Functions

The popular and award-winning ‘Kirstu’ storage chest, designed for Marimekko by Ilkka Suppanen, will from spring 2009 be accompanied by a new, multi-function furnishing item from the same designer, the ‘Kivikko’ (Stone).

Invitingly soft in shape, the ‘Kivikko’ serves both as a chair and as a headrest, as a seat and as a cushion. There are three sizes of ‘Kivikko’ that can be put together to form seat or cushion groups on the floor, or on a sofa or bed. Children can build ‘Kivikko’ cabins, fortresses, or snowman-like beings from their own imagination. The roughly spherical cushions also encourage adults to play and experiment; the ‘Kivikko’ is indeed a very social furnishing item, a tool, from which it is easy to approach other people.

The removable covers of the ‘Kivikko’ are made from Marimekko's dirt-repellent upholstery cotton, and come in single colour black or white, or in a perky pink-red version of the ‘Pirput parput’ pattern. The dotted ‘Pirput parput’ print was created by Vuokko Eskolin-Nurmesniemi.

The 'Kivikko' will be showcased on Marimekko's stand C05:41 at the Stockholm Furniture Fair from 4 to 8 February 2009.
